Wave Runners
The Calcutta YMCA's competitive youth swim team, the Wave Runners, take to the pool each winter and face off against other youth swim teams from around the tri-state area. Swimmers ages 7 to 18 can register for to become a Wave Runner in the fall.
Safety Around Water
Through Safety Around Water, parents and caregivers are encouraged to help their children learn fundamental water safety and swimming skills. During the course, children will learn how to respond if they find themselves in unexpected water situations -- from how to reach the water's surface if they submerge to safely reaching a pool's edge or exiting any body of water. In addition to learning lifesaving water safety skills, children can increase their physical activity by swimming. Swimming also motivates children to strive for self-improvement, teaches goal orientation and cultivates a positive mental attitude and high self-esteem. It also teaches life lessons of sport and sportsmanship, so that children can learn how to work well with teammates and coaches and how to deal with winning and losing.
Teen Strength Certification
